"You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level."
–Eckhart Tolle, self-help author
When your MacBook malfunctions, where do you take it to be fixed? Other things being equal, I’d skip the seedy repair shop for the Apple Genius Bar. I’d prefer to have the people who designed the MacBook fix mine.
When you experience times in your life that overload you with anxiety, or hound you with guilt, or surround you with uncertainty, where do you go for relief?
Why not go to the one who designed you? He who designed you has not left himself unavailable. Instead, he speaks to you in his Word, the Bible, telling you he knows the profound difficulties you have endured, and beckoning you to come receive the solution he offers.
Eckhart Tolle was right, though maybe not in the way he himself thought. When we realize who we are at the deepest level―creations of God, saved by Jesus―we find peace.
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
How does knowing Jesus, the Creator of all things, offers me rest, change my outlook on today?
Lord Jesus, help me to seek you when I feel unrested. Help me to crave your Word and thirst for your good news. Give me your yoke, that I may live according to who you have created me to be. In your name, amen.
