Why do people go to church?
Or, more importantly, why might you go to church? Because it’s something to do, because it’s how you were raised?
Jesus says that church is for people who are sick. People who are anxious. People who have guilt from their past. People who feel inadequate in some way. People who have tried to go it on their own and have realized they can’t.
Sound like you? I know it sounds like me. We all need Jesus’ healing in some way.
Do you need to “get your act together” before you visit a church? Absolutely not. Jesus came for you. He came to heal whatever you are struggling with. And he does so through his Word, which you can hear at church.
Jesus said, “It is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick.”
Would I be more likely to visit a church if I knew my best friend went there?
Lord Jesus, you came for people who are humbly aware of their lack, their need, their limitations, their failures. You came for people like me. You came to befriend me, to be my best friend, when I need you most. Help me to seek your Word among your people at church. Amen.
